"Many small people, from small places, doing small things can change the world".
The Federation Batean is an organisation which works with children in an urban district of Pamplona, Navarra. The project of Batean deals with the education of children, the support in their development and the protection of their rights. As in Rochapea live many families with migration background, the project of Batean also advocates the integration of children in the local society.
Batean offers a lot of free time activities in which the children and young people of the Rochapea can participate. These activities are supported by volunteers, who spend a part of their own free time working with the children. Many of these volunteers have participated in the activities themselves in their childhood, so they know very well the project of Batean and this creates a very personal and friendly atmosphere. There are activities like the play center, handicraft workshops, a guitare workshop, theatre, homework support, Basque dances and takes part on the festivities and cultural life of the community.
Furthermore there are groups of teenagers who want to become monitors. They are supported by other monitors, learn how to coordinate groups and how to work in a team. In this way Batean builds a bridge for the young people who are too old to participate in the activities, so that they can use the experiences they gained as children to become a monitor and to support children themselves.
